7,000 Join '#AnakAnakMalaysia Walk 2016

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- About 7,000 participants walk the talk at the '#AnakAnakMalaysia Walk 2016 held in conjunction with the 59th National Day Celebration here, Sunday. The 3.4 km-walk, which started and ended at the Bukit Bintang City Centre, was organised by Star Media Group, a Malaysia's leading integrated and innovative media group in collaboration with Eco World Development Group Berhad (Eco World, a public listed Malaysian company involved mainly in property development). Kuala Lumpur Mayor Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz flagged off the run at 7.30am, which was participated by the Star Media Group and Ecoworld staff, as well as members of the public. Star Media Group Bhd Chairman Fu Ah Kiow said the campaign aimed at an active participation of walking together in celebration of the country's diversity, and in the promotion of unity, harmony and tolerance. "For the second year in a row, Star Media Group and Eco World joined forces for the #AnakAnakMalaysia campaign, which took social media platforms by storm, with our fellow Malaysians wearing the wristbands and creatively expressing their patriotism messages last year," he told reporters in a press conferences after the flag off ceremony, here Sunday. Meanwhile, Star Media Group Bhd Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Wong Chun Wai said continuing on with last year's initiative, the #AnakAnakMalaysia wristbands would be distributed nationwide. "Malaysians are invited once again to show their love for our country with the hashtag '#AnakAnakMalaysia. "A total of 850,000 wristbands will be distributed with The Star newspaper from Aug 15 onwards," he said. The campaign is also supported by the #AnakAnakMalaysia influencers who are public figures, and members of society from all walks of life who have strong influence in the Malaysian community. The walk saw social activist Lee Lam Thye, CIMB Group Chairman Nazir Razak, Former National Football Player Soh Chin Aun, as well as local celebrities Lisa Surihani and Harith Iskander walking the talk for unity and harmony. --BERNAMA
