Pattani Authorities Seize 3 Smuggled Hornbills, Goods From Malaysia

By Mohd Haikal Mohd Isa PATTANI (Thailand), Nov 10 (Bernama) -- Thai authorities have confiscated three hornbills which are protected species, and various items from a train which arrived at the Khokpo station here from Sungai Golok, Narathiwat. Col Chaiwit Pimthong from the Internal Security Operation Command said on Wednesday, the authorities believed the hornbills and goods were smuggled from Malaysia for a ready clientele in Hatyai and Bangkok. He said the hornbills and various types of goods valued about US$114,178 (four million Baht) were seized on Tuesday. Also seized were 81 boxes of wildboar meat weighing more than 400kg, baby milk powder (850kg), liquid soap (30 boxes) and dried food (150 boxes). "The items were found not belonging to the train passengers but were believed to be heading to brokers waiting at the Hatyai station or other stations," said Chaiwit. --BERNAMA
