Police arrest man suspected of killing female university student

(ATTN: UPDATES throughout with details)
ANSAN, South Korea, Jan. 25 (Yonhap) -- Police announced Sunday they arrested a
man who allegedly murdered a 21-year-old female university student.
The 38-year-old suspect, identified only by his surname Kang and employed as a
masseur, has confessed to killing the female student who was last seen on Dec. 19
last year and was found dead earlier that day in the city of Gunpo, south of
Seoul.
The case has drawn national attention because several other women have been
reported missing in the area in recent years.
The body of the student was found buried in a rice paddy in Gunpo, 37 days after
she went missing, said Park Hak-geun, a senior police official in charge of the
case at the Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency.
Kang is accused of allegedly stealing the student's credit card before strangling
her to death on the day of her disappearance.
Police say they are still investigating the motive behind the killing and whether
there are any other victims. News reports say the suspect attempted to rape the
student.
