Hyundai Motor chairman to visit Europe

SEOUL, Jan. 28 (Yonhap) -- Chung Mong-koo, chairman of Hyundai Motor-Kia Motors Group, will fly to Europe next week to inspect Hyundai's European factories, industry sources said Wednesday.

Chung will depart for Frankfurt, Germany on Tuesday to inspect Hyundai and Kia
factories. He will visit Hyundai's St. Petersburg factory in Russia, now under
construction, before returning home from Moscow on Feb. 7.
Chung, to be accompanied by Vice Chairman Lee Hyun-soon and several executives,
is also planning to visit Hyundai Motor's plant in the Czech Republic and Kia's
plant in Slovakia during the five-day trip, sources said.
In light of Chung's visit to St. Petersburg, sources expect that construction of
the plant will be carried out as scheduled, although there has been speculation
that Hyundai may change its plan due to the global decrease in auto demand.
The St. Petersburg plant is scheduled to begin production in January 2011 with
a capacity of 100,000 units per year.
