Daewoo Electronics tops 1 mln front-loading washers

SEOUL, Feb. 1 (Yonhap) -- Daewoo Electronics Co., South Korea's third-largest
electronics manufacturer, said Sunday that its production of front-loading
washing machines has topped the 1-million unit mark.
The production landmark comes more than four years after Daewoo Electronics
started to produce front-loading washers in October 2004, the company said in a
statement.
Daewoo Electronics aims to increase cumulative production to 2 million by the end
of 2010 by unveiling new models. Currently, the company commands 30 percent of
the front-loading washing machine market in South Korea.
Daewoo Electronics is a former unit of Daewoo Group, a local conglomerate that
collapsed in 1999 under debt totaling US$80 billion.
