Main pillar of Royal Pyre for late Thai King to be installed

BANGKOK, February 23 (TNA) - The construction of the Royal Crematorium for late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej is on progress, with its main pillar set to be installed on February 27. Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha will preside over a ceremony to found the main pillar at Sanam Luang ceremonial ground next Monday. The main structure of the Royal Crematorium, which is on a 60x60-metre base, comprises of four iron pillar, about 23 metres high and weighing almost 20 tonnes each. The wind-resistant design is applied to ensure strong and safe structure of the Royal Pyre, which is 50.49 metres high, equivalent to a 18-storey building. The installation of the metal structure and pillars is scheduled to be finished by next month, followed by the artistic work of decorations, set to be completed timely for the Royal Cremation late this year.
