SK Telecom attracts more 3G service users than rival KTF
SEOUL, Feb. 2 (Yonhap) -- SK Telecom Co., South Korea's leading wireless
carrier, gained more subscribers for its third-generation wireless service last
month than its rival KTF, according to data released by mobile carriers on Monday.
??? SK Telecom reported that it attracted a net 394,857 users for its 3G WCDMA-based
services last month, with the total user base increasing to 8.63 million.
??? WCDMA stands for wideband code division multiple access, an improved
communications platform promising faster and more seamless data services than
second-generation CDMA-based services, as well as voice telephony.
??? KTF Co., South Korea's second-largest mobile carrier, drew in a net 306,981
users last month, bringing its customer base to 8.57 million.
??? It was the first time for SK Telecom to surpass KTF in terms of the number of 3G
users. SK Telecom launched its nationwide 3G WCDMA service in March last year,
competing with second-ranked KTF Co., which started its comparable service the same
month.
