Seoul stocks up 2.11 pct in late morning

SEOUL, Feb. 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks jumped 2.11 percent late Friday
morning as investor sentiment was boosted by an overnight Wall Street rally and a
Chinese stimulus plan, analysts said.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) advanced 24.85 points to
1,202.73 as of 11:20 a.m.
Electronics firms traded sharply higher with other sectors also registering solid
gains, tracking U.S. market gains on Thursday. The Dow industrials rose 1.34
percent and the Nasdaq gained 2.06 percent after retail behemoth Wall Mart
reported solid January sales.
Steelmakers and shipbuilders, believed to be sensitive to the Chinese economy,
also gained substantially as China's Cabinet approved measures to boost the
world's third-largest economy earlier this week.
The local currency was trading at 1,379.2 to the U.S. dollar as of 11:20 a.m., up
5.3 won from Thursday's close.
