Seoul stocks open sharply higher on tech gains


SEOUL, Feb. 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a strong start Friday,
with large-cap tech firms leading the gains, analysts said.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stocks Price Index (KOSPI) climbed 25.6 points, or
2.19 percent, to 1,203.66 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Most blue-chip shares traded sharply higher with IT shares and shipbuilders
registering the steepest gains amid solid retail buying.
The local currency was trading at 1,375.45 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., up 9.05 won from Thursday's close.
