Seoul shares open higher on Wall Street gains
SEOUL, Feb. 9 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started stronger Monday as gains in U.S. markets last week gave a boost to investor sentiment here, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) advanced 15.83 points, or
1.31 percent, to 1,226.09 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. stocks closed higher Friday on hopes for the passage of a stimulus package
plan in the Senate. The Dow Jones industrial average jumped 2.7 percent and the
tech-heavy Nasdaq composite index advanced 2.94 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,372.4 to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m., up
11.4 won from Friday's close.
