ADEC’s preparations for the new academic year 2009-2010 are underway
Abu Dhabi, February 10, 2009 (WAM) - Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) is getting ready for the next school year 2009-2010, said a press release by ADEC today.
Providing schools with teachers, administrative staff, textbooks, safety and maintenance services and relevant educational resources are ADEC's top priority at this stage.
Director General of ADEC Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al-Khaili said that the Council has formed a Steering Committee to follow up the needs and requirements of schools in order to meet them in a timely manner. Ad hoc committees, to include: teachers' recruitment and hiring, textbooks, school facility maintenance, transportation, new teachers orientation committees were formed to make sure those schools are ready before the commencement of the school year.
Al-Khaili added that those committees will be meeting on a weekly basis to follow up progress and overcome any obstacles.
Present at the first meeting held at ADEC Central Office were Director of Abu Dhabi Educational Zone, Head of Steering Committee Mohammad Salem Al-Dhaheri , Director of Western Educational Zone Khalfan Al-Mansouri, Director of Al-Ain Educational Zone, Salem Al-Kathiri, Division Manager of ADEC's Human Resources Taoufiq Bouhlal and heads and members of sub-committees.
Al-Dhaheri reviewed the responsibilities and roles of each of the sub-committees and assignment of their members. He called on everyone to work as a team in order to accomplish the work required and achieve ADEC's key objective to have a new school year with no obstacles or difficulties.
He emphasised the need to receive accurate feedback and statistics from all committees in order to provide schools with their actual needs. He instructed the textbooks committee to complete an inventory of the needs of textbooks for the next school year and submit it to the Ministry of Education and provide teachers with "Teachers' Guide" in order to avoid the problems occurred during previous years.
"AS for PPP and Model schools, the committee concerned will specify their needs of Maths, Science and English textbooks", he added.
He stated that the school facility maintenance committee will monitor the services' schedule in accordance with a work stream plan to ensure the completion of maintenance work on time prior to the commencement of the school year. An RFP of the maintenance companies shall be submitted.
Al-Dhaheri reviewed the roles and responsibilities of the teachers' recruitment and hiring committee and emphasised the need to select qualified teachers based on ADEC standards and criteria, via applying approved policies and procedures.
With regards to transportation committee he pointed out to the importance of communicating with Emirates Transport to finalise the contracts, plan out routes and report on any comments to take it into consideration prior to signing contracts.
"We should also determine the schools needs of furniture, resources and laboratory equipment and tools", he added.
The meeting addressed cleaning and safety issues and the necessity of selecting the appropriate companies at an early stage to avoid any delays. As discussed during the meeting, there should be an appropriate number assigned to each school based on the number of students.
