Luxury car importer to file civil lawsuit against DSI

BANGKOK, June 2 (TNA) - A luxury car private importer plans to file a civil lawsuit against the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) after the company’s 34 luxury cars have been seized by the DSI for further investigation over alleged car tax dodge. Intharasak Tejtheerasiri, also known as Boy Unity, the board of directors of the STT Autocar Service company, operating luxury car showrooms in Ratchadapisek and Sukhumvit 63 told a Thai News Agency reporter that he contacted a British lawyer to prepare documents, related to car registration and imports in order to prove that the company is a legal private importer of luxury cars and their imported vehicles were not stolen from England as believed or claimed by the DSI. The company’s lawyer will file a civil lawsuit against the DSI, demanding 50-million-baht compensation for the damage to the company and additional monthly compensation of 10 million baht after the showrooms have been forced to close for three weeks. The company said the DSI action made it lack of reliability and cost damage to its business of almost 100 million baht. Speaking about the DSI’s seizure of the luxury car, suspected of being falsely declared to avoid Thailand's high import duties, he said he had documents to clarify all importing procedures and will show those papers to the media on June 5. He said he has not yet summoned by the DSI to clarify the issue but he is ready to prove his innocence. The DSI seized the company’s 34 cars, worth about 400 million baht. Eleven were suspected of being stolen from Britain and the rest of 23 cars were believed to be linked to a tax avoidance scheme. (TNA)
