Sustainable energy efficiency highlighted

Manama, June 5 (BNA): Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza received Transportation and Communications Minister Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed to study the future plan for joint work between the Sustainable Energy Unit and relevant government bodies. During the meeting, the minister explained the background to the setting up of the unit and the historical sequence of the steps that led to its establishment. The Sustainable Energy Unit team gave a visual presentation about the unit, its goals, plans, regulations and legislations and the role of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications in its organizational structure. The Government of Bahrain represented by the Electricity and Water Authority and the United Nations Development Programme established the unit in November 2014 jointly. The unit reports to the Higher Committee for Natural Resources and Economic Security, headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister. It aims at encouraging investment in renewable energy and promoting steps to enhance its use and improve the efficiency of energy.
