Panda newborn expected in few days
CHIANG MAI, June 15 (TNA) -- Veterinarians at the Chiang Mai Zoo are expecting giant panda Lin Hui to give birth in two days as its artificial insemination had happened 131 days ago.
The pregnant giant panda, aged 15 years and 8 months, already built three nests in its quarter at the zoo. Its progesterone level was dropping, showing its pregnancy was reaching conclusion.
Veterinarians also found that its breasts were expanding and producing milk and its sex organ was covered with liquid, showing that delivery was upcoming.
Niphon Wichairat, director of the Chiang Mai Zoo, said its behaviors and hormone levels indicated that Lin Hui was likely to give birth in two days.
Veterinarians already prepared equipment to support the birth, including an incubator. The new born would be the second giant panda born in Thailand. Lin Hui gave birth to Lin Ping in Chiang Mai in 2009 and resulted in a panda fever in the country. (TNA)
