Net Metering project on good track

Manama, June 20(BNA): An Italian Consultancy Company has been commissioned to cooperate with the Sustainable Energy Unit (SEU) in introducing the Net Metering technology, a billing mechanism that credits solar energy system owners for the electricity they add to the national grid.
Headquartered in Milan, Centro Elettrotecnico Sperimentale Italiano (CESI) is a company that provides testing and certification services, energy consultancy, engineering and technology consulting for the electricity sector worldwide.
Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulahussain bin Ali Mirza received CESI Chief Matteo Codazzi and congratulated him on winning the tender of the project which will be carried in cooperation with the Sustainable Energy Unit (SEU).
The meeting was attended by SEU executive director Jehan Al-Murbati and other key officials representing the unit and the Italian consultancy firm.
Dr. Mirza stressed the importance of completing the project before the end of this year, in line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.
The Government approved early this year an ambitious national plan to achieve a rate of energy proficiency of 6 per cent (6%) by 2025.
The authorities have set a national goal to bring the contribution of the renewable energy sources to 5% initially by 2025, and 10% by the year 2035.
