Seoul stocks open lower on large-cap losses

SEOUL, Feb. 12 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a weak start Thursday
on large-cap losses, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 11.22 points, or
0.94 percent, to 1,178.96 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Steelmakers and financials led the losses, with bank shares taking a beating from
their lackluster fourth-quarter and overall performances in 2008.
The local currency was trading at 1,393.45 won against the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., up 0.05 won from Wednesday's close.
