Tourism ministry to organize Thailand’s first international contemporary art festival

BANGKOK, July 5 (TNA) -- The Ministry of Tourism and Sports together with the private sector will organize Thailand’s first international contemporary art festival with the hope to promote the country as the world’s center of arts and cultures. Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul told the press that Bangkok Art Biennale 2018 would gather contemporary arts of Thailand and other countries at important cultural locations in Thailand including Wat Phra Chetuphon, the Temple of Dawn, Wat Prayurawongsawat, East Asiatic and the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre from November 2018 to February 2019. As the festival would be held with the “Beyond Bliss” concept, exhibits would represent physical and mental happiness, ways to end sufferings, and hardships resulting from social, political and environmental problems, the minister said. Ms Kobkarn said that the festival would be an opportunity for Thailand to promote quality tourism and present its characters to the international community through arts and cultures. Besides, it would be a major step of Bangkok to become an international center of arts and cultures and Thai artists would be able to form their international networks and exhibit their works together with international artists, Ms Kobkarn said.
