Eleven Zika virus cases confirmed in Phichit

PHICHIT, July 5 (TNA) - Laboratory test results confirmed 11 patients, contracting the Zika virus in in lower northern province of Phichit while about 20 people are under medical surveillance. A number of patients, suffering from high fever, muscle pain and rash have been screened and tested for Zika virus at Phichit Hospital on suspicious of contracting the virus. Director of Phichit Hospital, Wiriya Iewprasert said local people should not panic as the outbreak occurred in one district alone and the disease can be contained. All 11 Zirus cases are residents in Bungnarang district. He asked local residents to help destroy breeding ground of mosquitoes to prevent the spread of the mosquito –borne diseases. Since this January, Thailand reported 81 Zika patients in 16 provinces, according to the Department of Disease Control. (TNA)
