NIGHTTIME ELECTRICITY TARIFF DISCOUNT INVOLVES RURAL HOUSEHOLDS

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ “Regulations on Granting Electricity Tariff Discounts to Ger District Households” was revised during the Cabinet's regular session on July 4. Accordingly, nighttime electricity cost of ger districts has reduced by 100 percent, while the center of each Aimag and soum with over 10 thousand population will receive 50 percent nighttime electricity discounts. By an estimate, around 140 thousand household will be involved in the discount. Only the occupied households are elibile for the discounts on electricity used for heating or household purposes at night in cold seasons. Energy Regulatory Commission will be responsible for determining the duration of cold season and night time period, as well as maximum power consumption based on electricity transmission, capacity of the network and technical possibilities. Furthermore, the regulation states the Ministry of Environment and Ulaanbaatar City Governor’s Office to annually determine air quality improvement zone in the capital. Also, the households are responsible for using nationally approved electricity meters, electric appliances, ensuring electricity and fire safety, as well as to pay electricity bills before receiving the discounts.
