Thailand to celebrate World Ranger Day

BANGKOK, July 14 (TNA) - The Department of the National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation will hold activities to celebrate the World Ranger Day, observed annually on July 31 at the Khao Yai National Park. The Department’s director-general, Thanya Nethithamkul said that General Surasak Karnjanarat Minister of Natural Resources and Environment will preside over the event. A parade of 1,300 officials will be part of the activities. A presentation ceremony of honorary plaques and money reward will be held for relatives of park rangers, killed or injured in the line of duty. According to the department’s statistics, 36 rangers were killed and 39 others were injured during 2014-2016. This year, two were killed and three others were wounded. This year, a charity run will be held to coincide with the main event on July 31 to raise fund for the welfare of rangers. The charity run activities will be held at four venues, starting on July 23 at Doi Inthanon National Park in Chiang Mai, on July 29 at the Khao Sok national park in Surat Thani and the last day on July 30 at the Khao Yai Naitonal Park and the Erawan National Park in Kanchanaburi.
