Cambodia to open Thai-based nationality verification center in Aug

BANGKOK, July 17 (TNA) – Cambodia plans to open a national verification center for Cambodian workers in Thailand in August, the Thai director-general of the Employment Department said. A group of Thai delegates, led by Department’s director-general Waranon Peetiwan, on Saturday flied to Phnom Penh to hold talks with Seng Sakda, director-general of the Labor and Vocational Training Ministry, about Thailand’s Royal Decree on Management of Foreign Workers’ Employment B.E. 2560. Speaking after meeting with Seng, Waranon said the Thai officials used this opportunity to clarify about the new regulations and conditions on work permits under which immigrants are required to undergo nationality verification processes. The Thai official continued that Cambodia agreed to set up a nationality verification operation center for Cambodian workers in Thailand. The one-stop-service center where travel documents will be issued is expected to open in August. Waranon added that all of the staff at the center will be identifiable with names, photos and other personal information provided for the Thai side as part of efforts to prevent illegal agents. Cambodia also urged Thailand to report them once any irregularities are found. Thailand is set to discuss the details with Cambodia again on July 26-27. (TNA)
