Chao Phraya dam releases more water
CHAINAT, July 17 (TNA) - A large volume of water forces the Chao Phraya dam in Chainat, one of the country’s major dams to increase water discharge while people, living downstream are warned of rising water.
The water discharge from the dam has been increased by about 94 cubic metres per second from the discharge volume yesterday.
As a result, the water level downstream rises by 30 centimetres. The authorities warn people along the Chao Phraya River and the Noi River to monitor the water situation closely while the Royal Irrigation Department has worked with agencies concerned to prepare assistance for local residents.
Meanwhile, the tropical storm Talas over Vietnam, moving to Laos is forecast to become tropical depression and low pressure cell respectively, and pass through Thailand’s Nan and Chiang Rai by tonight.
It is likely to trigger heavy downpour in Thai northeastern provinces of Mukdahan, Roi-et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen and Ubon Ratchathani. The water in the Mekong River is rising and becomes turbid.
Local residents along the Mekong River and those who live in low-lying areas are warned of a possible flash flood. (TNA)
