Thai human rights activist meets Minister
BANGKOK, July 20 (TNA) -- Volunteerism against crime is a key to successful anti-human trafficking, says Weerawan Mosby, a Thai human rights activist who has won the US Trafficking in Persons (TIP) award.
Thailand’s Ministry of Social Development and Human Security presented an honorary plaque to Ms Weerawan, who is one of eight individual who received the “TIP Report Hero Acting to End Modern Slavery Award 2017” from the US Department of State.
Minister of Social Development and Human Security Adul Saengsingkaeo said he exchanged ideas with Ms Weerawan on human trafficking situation, career assistance and victim protection.
Pol Gen Adul vowed to work hard to eradicate human trafficking which was top government agenda.
Ms Weerawan warned that trafficking in children was still rife and expressed her willingness to cooperate with government and other agencies to end these crimes.
She stated that social networks of volunteers would effectively prevent the crimes by which to create proper awareness-raising among children to protect themselves from traffickers.
Ms Weerawan is the founder and director of children’s rights protection group HUG Project, based in Chiang Mai.
The activist has stressed on defensive approach of raising awareness and equipping children with the knowledge of how to protect themselves. (TNA)
