Flood hits upper part of Thailand
UBON RATCHATHANI, July 27 (TNA) - The tropical depression “Sonca”, downgraded to active low pressure have covered the upper part of Thailand and caused heavy rain and flood in several provinces.
In the Northeastern province of Ubon Ratchathai, three districts have been hit by flash flood as high as two metres in some areas. Rice fields, rubber and tapioca plantations have been submerged.
In Mukdahan, there was a blackout in the municipality and billboards and trees were felled on a road by strong wind. Local authorities removed the debris to open the road to traffic.
In Nongkhai, the Mekong River has increased. The Nong Khai municipality installed large pumps to drain water from the provincial seat into the river.
In the northern province of Chiang Rai, water in many rivers has risen and burst its banks, overflowing into houses and farmlands as high as one meter. A school in Bua Mae Lao district has been forced to close until Monday. (TNA)
