Ubon Ratchathani braces for increased flood
UBON RATCHATHANI, Aug 2 (TNA) – Local residents along the Mun River in the northeastern province of Ubon Ratchathani are warned of increased flood following more water discharge from a dam in a nearby province.
The local irrigation project issue a flood warning for local residents, living along the Mun River after a dam in Si Si Ket, opened all sluice gates to release the water into the Mun River. The mass of water is expected to reach Ubon Rathchani tomorrow. It could worsen the flood, which have already affect hundreds of houses in riverside communities in the provincial seat and Warin Chamrap district.
After inspecting the flood-hit area in Warin Chamrap district, provincial governor, Somsak Jangtrakul requested for flood drainage equipment with water jet propulsion system from the Royal Thai Navy to increase the flow of water, drained from the Mun River into the Mekong River in preparation for more water surge.
Provincial irrigation office also mobilized two water pumps to drain water from flooded area and reinforce sank embankment to prevent flood on roads. (TNA)
