Commerce Ministry will formulate a strategic plan for Thai fruits

NONTHABURI, Aug 7 (TNA) – The Commerce Ministry will come up with a strategic plan for Thai fruits to make Thailand a leading fruit exporter of the world. Deputy Commerce Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong said the ministry and the private sector would develop the plan that would consist of short and long-term measures to stabilize fruit prices and ensure the good quality of Thai fruits. According to him, the strategic plan will be initially applied to durian, coconut and mangosteen as their production is increasing and their export markets are big. Short-term measures will include efforts to have accurate yield predictions and improve the quality of the fruits to raise prices. Besides, logistic measures will be applied to facilitate their collection and distribution, and fruit expositions will be organized to promote Thai fruits. The strategic plan is expected to be completed within June next year when large fruit harvests are expected. The plan would cover processed fruits and fruit export, Mr Sontirat said. (TNA)
