Free durian buffet in Ranong

RANONG, Aug 9 (TNA) – The southern province of Ranong will hold the 2nd durian buffet festival in Kraburi district on Aug 13, in which visitors can eat durian for free. The free durian festival will be offered at the Rangtaen stadium in Jorporror subdistrict, the province’s durian production area, said Ranong governor Jatupot Piyamputra. About 2,500 kilogrammes of durians of Mon Thong and Kan Yao varieties will be given to festival goers o enjoying tasting the delicious and safe durians as no chemical use in durian orchards here. The one-day festival is organized as part of the marketing campaign to promote durians, grown in Ranong as well as tourism. At the event, other activities will be held such as contest f the best durian, cooking demonstration of fried durian and preserved durian, said Yongyut Kachasing, mayor of the Jorporror sub-district municipality. According to the provincial agriculture office, there are about 6,000 rai (2,400 acres) of durian orchards in Ranong, mostly in Jorporror subdistrict. Durian growers earn about 200 million bath a year or about 500,000- one million baht for each household. (TNA)
