Floods and drought included on national agenda

BANGKOK, August 9 (TNA) - The Thai government has included the problems of floods and drought into the national agenda. Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha on Wednesday chaired a meeting of a committee in charge of national water resources at Bangkok's Government House, the second time this year, during which there was a resolution that the problems of floods and drought be included on the national agenda. The prime minister said that the national agenda on water issues, thus, now comprises of water for consumption, water for agricultural and industrial use and water for the conservation of the ecological system, as well as solutions on floods and drought. The prime minister noted that his government will review the policy and state budgets on water management to be in accordance with the current situation. Besides, plans and projects on water issues under the national agenda will be screened and clearly tailored so that their results would mostly meet the public expectation. According to the prime minister, a national plan on comprehensive water issues phase 2, for 2017-2018, is being worked out, while the national plan for 2019 will be focused on sustainable solutions to floods and drought, as advised by His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun.
