Foreign media praises government on education
BANGKOK, Aug 13 (TNA) -- Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha is pleased after foreign media lauded the Thai government on giving an opportunity to an old lady to study and eventually obtained bachelor’s degree, said a government spokesman on Sunday.
Spokesman Lieutenant General Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Gen Prayut was pleased after learning that the BBC in London and the ABC of the US have joined the Thai media to report on the 91-year-old Kimlan Jinakul from the northern province of Phayao who received bachelor’s degree in human ecology from Bangkok’s Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University.
Grandma Kimlan is probably the oldest student to have received the degree in the Thai history from King Maha Vajiralongkorn in a graduation ceremony last Wednesday. She spent more than 10 years in her study.
The Thai government was praised for giving opportunity to people of all ages to study, said Lt Gen Sansern.
He said the prime minister praised the grandma for her effort in the study, thus showing that “nobody is too old to study” and at the same time inspired the Thai people.
Lt Gen Sansern stressed that the Thai government is prepared to support and further develop national education in an attempt to upgrade it. (TNA)
