Nuclear power firm to issue 500 bln won in bonds
SEOUL, Feb. 16 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's state-run nuclear power company said
Monday it will issue 500 billion won (US$345 million) worth of bonds this month
to help finance the country's long-range reactor construction program.
The Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. said that of the total, 370 billion won worth
of bonds will mature in five years and the remainder will have a maturity of
three years.
"The bonds are to be used to build new reactors that can help contribute to
economic growth and hiring," said the company.
In January, the power company sold 300 billion won in bonds and plans to raise a
total of 3 trillion won through bond issuance this year.
South Korea plans to build 12 new nuclear reactors by 2022 to help meet growing
domestic demand. At present there are 20 commercial reactors that generate around
36 percent of the country's total power supply.
