Flood hits Thai-Myanmar border in Chiang Rai

CHIANG RAI, Aug 18 (TNA) - A business area at Thai-Myanmar border in Chiang Rai has been flooded following overnight rainfall. In Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district, the river, bordering Thailand and Myanmar overflowed its banks to flood riverside communities and border markets in both sides. Local residents and about 200 traders in Thailand’s Mae Sai district and Myanmar’s Tachileik moved their belonging to higher ground as the water level is likely to rise. Floodwater is as high as one metre in some areas. Local authorities travelled by boat to assist flood victims and warned nearby communities to brace for possible flood. A border road at the Thai –Myanmar Friendship bridge is impassable due to high flood water. (TNA)
