WHO praises Thailand on medicinal management

BANGKOK, Aug 20 (TNA) -- The United Nations World Health Organisation/ South-East Asia Region (WHO/SEARO) has praised the Thai government on medicinal management which allows an easy access for the sick, said Kannikar Kijtiwatchakul, a member of the National Health Security Office (NHSO) committee. Ms Kannikar said the WHO/SEARO has issued a report saying that Thailand offers an excellent health services under the government’s National Healthcare Insurance Programmes which give an easy access to patients. Besides that concerned authorities provide good management on medicines under their supervision of which some 90 per cent of the pharmaceuticals are available at government-run hospitals, she said. Only a few amount of medicines are left in stock, Ms Kannikar quoted the report. The pharmacists at almost all levels should be commended and it would be good enough if Thailand allows other countries to learn from its experience, the world agency said. She said the United Nations Development Programme recently led public health personnel from 46 countries for study the medicine management at the NHSO and at the Government Pharmaceutical Organisation and the Thais should be proud and further develop the programme.
