Mekong River freight disrupted by high water level
NONG KHAI, Aug 23 (TNA) -- High water level in the Mekong River disrupts freight transport and logistics along the international river amid surges in rainfalls.
Water level was measured 9.92 meters at a river outpost in Nong Khai province Tuesday morning, rising five centimeters from Monday.
It is a new height this year, just 2.28 meters below the river bank. Cargo ships are advised to lower their load weight and exercise extra caution in river navigation.
Officials expect the water level will remain unchanged because water level in upper stream areas has been lower in the past few days.
Nong Khai is home to major ports critical to border trade between Thailand and Laos. (TNA)
