Chiang Rai coffee and tea festival starts this weekend

CHIANGRAI, Aug 23 (TNA) – The premium coffee and tea festival will be held in the northern province of Chiang Rai this weekend. The Chiang Rai Coffee –Tea & Green Food Festival 2017 will be held from Aug 25-27 at the Central Plaza Chiang Rai, Boonwate Sripuangchai, Chiangrai deputy governor and senior tourism officials told the press conference at Chivit Thammada Coffee House in the Chiang Rai municipality. The event is aimed at promoting Chiang Rai tourism through coffee and tea products in accordance with the government’s policy to distribute income to farmers and local people. An exhibition on the cultivation of Arabica coffee trees will be presented at the event to pay tribute to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who distributed Arabica coffee trees to hill tribe people for growing in substitution for opium, leading to their better quality of life. Premium coffee and tea, cultivated at five best quality coffee production areas such as Doi Chang, Doi Wawee and Doi Tung will be available for selling at the fair. A barista competition will be held and the winner will take home the trophy from Chiang Rai governor. (TNA)
