Rice bran oil conference held in Bangkok

BANGKOK, Aug 24 (TNA) – The fourth International Conference on Rice Bran Oil (ICRBO 2017) kicked off in Bangkok to highlight benefits of rice bran oil and its manufacturing technology. About 200 academicians and operators from 13 countries are attending the two-day conference to at the Pathumwan Princess Hotel on August 24 and 25. The conference was opened by Deputy Prime Minister Prajin Juntong. The conference is co-organized by the Thai state agencies, Naresuan University and Thai and foreign rice bran oil manufacturers to exchange knowledge in developing rice bran oil production and to promote the use of rice bran oil in household cooking, food manufacturing, Pharma-Cosmetics and Nutraceuticals businesses. Assoc Prof Rianthong Singjanusong, director of the Centre of Excellence in Fats and Oils, Neresuan University said Thailand has been produced high quality and quantity of rice bran oil. The country can produce 140,000 tonnes per year for domestic and overseas markets and earns about two billion baht a year from rice bran oil exports. Rice bran oil has many benefits for health such as cholesterol reducing cholesterol, moisturizing skin and maintaining neurological balance. Hiromichi Murai, rice oil bran operator from Japan said Japan has innovation in rice bran oil production but its obstacle is decreasing rice produce. Due to lack of raw material, it has to depend on rice imports, he said adding that in Japan, the government and private sectors also promote rice bran oil production and consumption. (TNA)
