OECD, Thailand agree to foster cooperation

BANGKOK, Aug 25 (TNA) -- The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) expressed readiness to support Thailand’s development. Deputy government spokesman Werachon Sukondhapatipak said OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria called on Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha as Thailand hosted the OECD Southeast Asia Regional Forum 2017. “The prime minister said that Thailand is ready to expand cooperation with OECD as its expertise should be useful for national reform. The prime minister also thanked OECD for reviving the Country Programme (CP) for Thailand. This shows that OECD has confidence in Thailand. The government plans to use the CP to drive national reform,” Lt Gen Werachon said. According to the deputy government spokesman, the OECD secretary-general said that the CP could lead to Thailand’s membership in OECD and it would be the first Southeast Asian nation to be an OECD member. After the meeting, OECD, the Office the Public Sector Development Commission and the Office of the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission signed a memorandum of understanding on campaigns to promote honesty in Thailand.
