Thailand ready to host world jewelry congress

BANGKOK, Sept 6 (TNA) -- The Commerce Minister has confirmed that Thailand is ready to organize a world jewelry congress in Bangkok in November, expecting about 400 participants from 42 countries. Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn said the CIBJO Congress 2017 was set at Shangri-La Hotel on November 2-7. The Gem and Jewelry Institute and the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) were compiling a list of 300-400 celebrities, trade representatives, academic representatives, investors and gem and jewelry operators from 42 countries who were interested in attending the congress, she said. On the occasion, Thailand would present its gem and jewelry industry and its potential to become the world’s center of gems and jewelry within 2021, the commerce minister said. Ms Apiradi also said that a highlight in the CIBJO Congress 2017 would be the World Ruby Forum 2017 set on Nov 4 at Shangri-La Hotel. Duangkamol Jiambutr, director of the Gem and Jewelry Institute, said the World Ruby Forum would share knowledge about rubies and their value as rubies were a key element of the Thai gem industry.
