VP, Vietnamese PM hold talks over ways of expanding joint cooperation

Dubai, Feb 17, 2009 (WAM) - Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and visiting Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung explored yesterday ways of expanding the base of joint cooperation to include new sectors that will further boost relations of friendship and cooperation.
The talks, which were conducted at the Zabeel Palace and attended by H. H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and senior officials, touched on the global economy where Sheikh Mohammed and his guest stressed the need for overcoming the current state through collective international efforts and positive involvement and consultations among governments and coordination with the private sector and international financial institutions.
For his part, the Vietnamese premier lauded diverse achievements made by the UAE economy particularly in sectors like technology, education, tourism and infrastructure.
He hoped his trip to the UAE would be fruitful and produce positive results for the betterment of bilateral economic, cultural and educational relations.
After the extended round of talks, the two premiers sponsored the conclusion of five agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries.
H.E. Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem, sealed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on political consultations between the two governments. An agreement for establishing the joint ministerial committee was signed by Dr Gargash and Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang.
UAE Labour Minister HE Saqr Ghobash and his Vietnamese counterpart Madam Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan inked a MoU for cooperation in workforce.
UAE Minister of State for Financial Affairs Obeid Al Tayer signed two agreements with top Vietnamese officials regarding protection and encouragement of investment and avoidance of double taxation on income.
Later, Sheikh Mohammed hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of the Vietnamese premier and his accompanying delegation.
