Bangkok Bank launches QR Code payment system
BANGOK, Sept 9 (TNA) -- Bangkok Bank has launched a QR Code payment via PromptPay, in line with the government’s policy to promote a cashless society in the kingdom.
On Friday, senior executives and staff of the bank began promoting the payment system for products and services at a popular shopping market next to its headquarters on Bangkok’s Silom Road.
More than 60 per cent of over 300 shops situated along the alley have already accepted payments for products and services by scanning QR Codes which has been introduced since last month.
Prasanee Ouiyamaphan, executive vice president of Bangkok Bank, said shops which are interested in accepting payments through QR Code can contact the bank in which it will place the name of the bank along with PromptPay QR code to the shops.
Ms Prasanee said shops only need to use their mobile phone numbers in registration and they can create the QR Code. Buyers can settle payments by transferring payment amount to shops’ accounts linked with PromptPay.
They system will help ease worries on the part of buyers in keeping changes and a huge amount of cash during the day.
Bangkok Bank has targeted that about 2,000 shops nationwide would join the programme during the initial period. (TNA)
