Thai officials trying to recover derailed train in Saraburi

SARABURI, Sept 10 (TNA) – Recovery efforts for derailed train cars in Saraburi province are underway and expected to be completed on Sunday evening. The No 1601 train towing 22 cars full of cement powder and one passenger car derailed near the Pha Sadet station in Thap Kwang sub district, Kaeng Khoi district after it left from a local factory for the northern province of Chiang Mai province on Saturday. Following the incident, the State Railway of Thailand deployed officials and heavy machinery to clear debris off the track in order to reopen the route, but periodic heavy rain has caused delays. The removal process is expected to be completed this evening. Regarding causes of the accident, Kasem Simthuchai, head of the Pha Sadet railway station, said he was informed ahead of the derailment that a locomotive driver lost control of the train after going down steep hills.
