Malaysian Investors Interested in Thai EEC Project
BANGKOK, Sept 15 (TNA) - Malaysian businesspeople showed their interest to invest in Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) project and the Rubber City in the southern province of Songkhla during the meeting with Thai deputy prime minister.
Malaysia’s Second Finance Minister Datuk Johari Adul Ghani led members of Kuala Lumpur Bussiness Club to meet Thai Deputy Prime Minister, Somkid Jatusripitak at Government House in Bangkok on Thursday.
After discussion, Mr Somkid said Malaysian investors expressed interest in the Rubber City in Songkhla to serve as a hub of rubber products and the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) project. They are also interested in adding value to farm products and the development of the deep sea port in Songkhla, which will link marine transportation with Malaysia’s Penang.
Malaysia proposed that Thailand and Malaysian joined hands to solve the obstacles and jointly develop logistic system to reduce the duration in goods transportation. Both sides agreed to meet again to concretely address the problem.
The two sides also agreed to enhance economic cooperation through the tripartite mechanism of Indonesia- Malaysia- Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT), which encompasses 14 provinces in southern Thailand, 10 provinces of the Indonesian island of Sumatra and eight states of peninsular Malaysia. (TNA)
