PHUKET, Sept 16 (TNA) -- Floods receded in the southern tourist island of Phuket and road traffic resumed except on some damaged routes. Phuket governor Norapat Plodthong said floods that had resulted from persistent rain were completely drained into canals. Despite light rain in the morning, no areas were flooded. According to him, commuters can use all roads except Muang Mai-Pa Khlok Road where bridge embankments collapsed. People were advised to take a detour and local road officials were repairing the embankments. Flooding affected about 2,000 families in Thalang district and local authorities were sending consumer products to the victims. Meanwhile, Sunaree Boonchub, chief of disaster mitigation in Satun province, said floods covered four areas namely Langu, Manang and Khuan Ka Long districts as well as Koh Lipe of the provincial seat. Montree Maneekit, assistant village head in Ban Koh Lipe village, said rain was declining but two Moken communities remained facing 30 centimeters high of floodwater on Koh Lipe. (TNA)
