2.4 million people volunteer to help with royal cremation

BANGKOK, Sept 29 (TNA) - More than 2.4 million people have applied to be volunteers in various kinds of work during the royal cremation. The registration for volunteers during the royal cremation ceremony of King Bhumibol Adulyadej in October started on Sept 1 and will close on Sept 30. The application can be submitted at Sanam Sua Pa in Bangkok and all district offices in the capital and provinces from 8am to 4pm everyday. Thai people, living overseas can also apply at Thai embassies or consular offices. In the past 27 days, the number of volunteers amounted to 2.4 million people, including 122,762 people in Bangkok. After the end of the registration, volunteers will receive caps, scarves, polo shirts and armbands from Oct 7-12 and will meet with heads of each section from Oct 18-31 for job briefing. Eight fields of work are available for volunteers to choose, including preparation of cremation flowers, public relations, construction, transportation, public services, medical services, security and traffic arrangement.
