PM opens Pakbara submarine cable system, landing station
SATUN, Sept 29 (TNA) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha is visiting the southern province of Satun to open Pakbara submarine cable system, landing station, the first submarine cable system to directly connect Thailand to the world’s major internet hub countries.
Gen Prayut was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong and Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paochinda and Digital Economy and Society Minister, Pichet Durongkaveroj.
He first went to Songkhla Rajabhat University to give Pracharat Internet, the high-speed internet service, to local villages in Satun as part of the national initiative to provide broadband internet access to more than 24,700 villages in Thailand by the end of 2017.
The prime minister also gave flood relief supplies to religious leaders and local leaders for distribution to flood victims. He will later travel to open Pakbara submarine cable system and landing station before returning to Bangkok this afternoon.
The Pakbara submarine cable project provides Thailand direct connection to 17 internet hub countries in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe and the new system will support Thailand to be ASEAN digital hub. (TNA)
