UAE-Thai talks on security cooperation kick off
Abu Dhabi, Feb 19, 2009 (WAM) - Senior security officials from the UAE and Thailand yesterday started the second round of negotiations on a security cooperation agreement between the two countries on combating terrorism, organized crime, human trafficking and narcotic drugs.
The said agreement would also provide for boosting cooperation in several security areas.
Representatives of the Thai intelligence service, Public Prosecution and the Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi took part in today talks.
The UAE side comprises Head of International Agreements Department at the Interior Ministry Ahmed Ali Al Khuzaimi and representatives of Abu Dhabi Police, Dubai Police and the Ministry of Justice.
The UAE side was chaired by Deputy Director General of Criminal Investigation Brigadier Abdullah Rashid Al Bedewi while the Thai side was chaired by Deputy Director-General of the Department of Treaties and Legal Affairs at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rachanant Thananant.
"The current talks demonstrate the depth of the established and distinct relations between the two countries, in particular in the area of security," stressed Al Bedewi noting the directives by H.H. Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior to boost cooperation and exchange of expertise with friendly and sisterly countries.
