O.ENKHTSETSEG PRESENTS CURRENT SITUATION OF MONGOLIAN FOOD SAFETY AT UNGA MEETING

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Director of the Multilateral Cooperation Department of the Mongolian Ministry of Foreign Affairs O.Enkhtsetseg addressed a meeting of the 72nd Session of United Nations General Assembly Second Committee, which discussed the agricultural development and the food safety on World Food Day, October 16. At the meeting, countries' representatives highlighted that the political and economic instability, conflict and scarcity of natural resources are becoming the main factors of migration, specifically, the people in rural areas, and addressed the importance of strengthening international cooperation on eradicating hunger and malnutrition, supporting the development of food safety and agriculture, and aligning the issues of reducing poverty with social protection. In her speech, O.Enkhtesteg said in the frameworks of maintaining sustainable development in food and agricultural sectors, the Government of Mongolia launched the ‘Healthy Food - Healthy Mongolian’, ‘Industrialization 21:100’, ‘National Manufacturing’ programs, the ‘First Meat and Milk' campaign, and is working to continue the Third Campaign for Reclaiming Virgin Lands. She informed that the Government of Mongolia is cooperating with some organizations, such as the UN Food and Agricultural Organization and the UNDP in the industrial sector and the food safety. O.Enkhtsetseg also noted that improving the veterinary service, increasing the quality and efficiency of animal husbandry, and introducing environmentally friendly technology are important for sustainable development of agriculture. O.Enkhtsetseg highlighted that a guidance on optimizing the legal environment, studying the opportunities of a long-term soft loans for food producers, increasing food production, improving the monitoring of food safety and education of the consumers, was prepared during a national forum ‘Food Safety of Mongolia', which was held in Ulaanbaatar in September.
