SUB-STATION TO DECENTRALIZE CAPITAL CITY

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A ceremony took place on Wednesday to lay the foundation stone of the ‘Selbe’ thermal sub-station after tackling an issue of releasing a land for building the station. The Municipality of Ulaanbaatar city has launched the ‘Redevelopment of ger districts and investment support’ with funds from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the European Investment Bank (EIB). One of the major works within the project is to construct the ‘Selbe’ thermal sub-station. When the thermal plant put into operation, ger districts along the roads to summer cottages will be provided with heating from a centralized source. “Air pollution issue has become a headache of the Mongolian Government and people. The only solution is to provide people with apartments and connect them with a centralized heating system. I am pleased with launching of construction works of the sub-station and I hope our residents would enjoy the outcomes very soon,” said Ts.Davaasuren, Minister of Energy. Mayor of Ulaanbaatar S.Batbold pointed out that building of the ‘Bayankhoshuu’ and ‘Selbe’ sub-stations is a concrete action to make Ulaanbaatar a multi-centered city by ensuring a balanced development of the city. This work will reduce coal consumption by 15 thousand tons, he added. The project costs USD 320 million, of which USD 162 million will be allotted from the ADB and USD 60 million--from city budget. The remaining amount of money is planned to be raised from donor countries. B.Batchimeg
