Obeid Al Ketbi: IDEX is a major hub for defence purchases in the region and Indian Subcontinent
Staff Major General Obaid Al Ketbi, Chairman of the IDEX 2009 Military Committee and Spokesman for International Defence Exhibition, IDEX 2009 said that IDEX differs from all other exhibitions as it is not just an exhibition in the conventional method. Every edition of IDEX strives to be different from the previous one in every aspect, be it in the content of what is showcased, or what is presented as the latest concepts in the area of defence.
In a statement given to the Dira' al Watan (Nation Shield) Magazine on the occasion of the opening of IDEX 2009 today, Al Ketbi said that most of the major arms manufacturing companies across the world prepare themselves specially for the event and insist on showcasing the latest they have produced, thus unveiling those defence marvels for the first time to the world.
The wide spectrum of this year's edition includes land, sea and air defence equipments and vehicles, radar systems, electro-optical warfare systems, arms and ammunitions, command and control systems, communication, monitoring and intelligence systems, as well as defence systems against chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear weapons.
Al Ketbi asserted the great support extended by the prudent leadership of the country to this huge technological and strategic event. The support from the UAE Armed Forces have helped the event to become one of the most important world exhibition in the field of land, sea and air defence, making it the major hub for defence purchases in the Middle East and North African (MENA) region and the Indian Subcontinent, he added.
' We understand the importance of the exhibition to UAE in general and the emirate of Abu Dhabi in particular, as well as the role of the exhibition in representing the world's defence manufacturing industry. As a result of the support from the leadership, IDEX became the highest source of information in the field of land, sea and air forces.
