UAE President to open IDEX 2009

UAE President and Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will inaugurate here today, Sunday, morning the 9th edition of the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX 2009), in the presence of Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, a number of sheikhs, ministers, heads of delegations of over 50 countries, a large number of military commanders and heads of defence firms from various parts of the world.
Eight hundred and ninety seven specialised companies from 50 countries, 150 official delegates and a large number of military defence related officials, including defence ministers, chiefs of staff, military commanders from Gulf, Arab and foreign countries will also be participating in the biannual show, which is being held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) and will last until February 26.
IDEX 2009, which is expected to attract more than 45,000 visitors worldwide, including government officials and top military officers, will occupy all the internal areas of the ADNEC and the latter's large external area to bring the total area of the exhibition to about 108,000 square metres.
With the IDEX now regarded as one of the world's biggest and most popular defence shows, IDEX 2009 will showcase state-of-the-art defence technologies, including high-tech equipment, machineries and trucks, land, air and sea systems, as well as radar and other electronic warfare systems. It will also put on show electro-visual systems, command and control systems, sophisticated weapons, telecom systems, monitoring and intelligence systems, chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear defence systems, national security systems, training, logistics and medical systems and many more. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
