QUANTITY OF STRATEGIC FOODS TO BE IMPORTED AND EXPORTED SETTLED

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ The quantity of strategic foods to be exported and imported in 2018 have been settled at November 29 meeting of the National Council on Food Safety, headed by the Prime Minister. According to the decision, 27,900 tons of beef and 33,600 tons of horsemeat will be exported, but there will be no limit for goat meat and mutton. A volume of horsemeat export in 2017 was decided to be increased by 10 thousand tons. As of November 20, 2017 Mongolia exported 21500 tons of meat and meat products in total, of which 80 percent were horsemeat. The National Council on Food Safety made a resolution to export 20 thousand tons of horsemeat in 2017 and horsemeat export already reached the quota. When Prime Minister U. Khurelsukh worked at meat factories on November 28, the producers requested to increase this year’s quota, as there are more orders and requests from some countries to import horsemeat. Producers also asked the PM to facilitate specialized inspections and customs clearance on meat export and develop the services into one-window. The issue was also touched upon at the meeting. N. Tsagaankhuu, chairman of the General Agency for Specialized Inspection, and B. Asralt, director general of Mongolian Customs General Administration, were assigned to take immediate preparatory measures to export industrially-prepared meat and render professional-methodological supports to exporters. Moreover, the council made a resolution to import 225 thousand tons of wheat, 10 thousand tons of wheat grain, and 4,218 tons of dried milk. M. Unurzul
